The NDIAAA 2023 Spring Conference will be held on April 1 – April 3 at the Fargo Ramada in Fargo, ND.   The registration fee includes:  breakout sessions, general meetings, a registration gift, continental breakfasts, refreshments during breaks, Sunday lunch, conference social, and the awards banquet dinner.    

  

The NDIAAA is committed to providing professional growth opportunities to its membership. We do this through the NIAAA Leadership Training Program which can lead to NIAAA Certification as an athletic administrator. This program provides the opportunity to attain certification as an RAA, CAA or/and CMAA if you complete the course work and meet other criteria. By earning this certification, $1,000,000 of additional personal liability insurance will be available to you through the NIAAA at no charge. You may also have the opportunity for increased salary, depending on your school district policy. As of the spring of 2012, the NDIAAA/NIAAA workshops and conferences, if you take at least one LTI course and attend the workshop or conference, will qualify to count as a workshop as part of the administrative credential renewal process through DPI. For more information on the Leadership Training Program please contact Jason Wiberg or Chad Berger.  

 

Saturday features another strong lineup of LTC courses offered to our membership.  We will be offering LTC 712 and LTC 710A during the morning session.  During the afternoon session, LTC 510 and LTC 790 will be offered.  We’d encourage our members to consider taking LTC 790 so that we can continue to build our State LTC Faculty.  The courses and their description can be found on the registration form.  A graduate credit is also available through the Valley City State University.  Credit registration will be covered at the start of each of the courses on Saturday.   Please note this information on the on-line registration form.    

On Sunday, each attendee will have the opportunity to take LTC 716 Partnering with Parents Building a Positive Culture in Education-Based Athletics.  During the afternoon, we will have a variety of outstanding presentations featuring a presentation from the US Council for Athletes’ Health (USCAH) along with our regional meetings.  

Sunday night our organization will recognize outstanding colleagues, including identifying the Athletic Administrators of the Year, introducing national awards recipients, announcing the nominees for national Distinguished Service and Citation awards, the State Award of Merit winner and the inductions to the NDIAAA Hall of Fame.   The banquet will conclude with the introduction of the 2022 - 23 NDIAAA President and the awarding of the outgoing president plaque.  Those NDIAAA members attending the banquet will be eligible for five $100 door prizes along with a chance to win the Gangl Hospitality NADC Scholarship.  Please plan to attend.    

  

Monday will begin with some words from our sponsors and another presentation by USCAH.  The day will conclude with the NDIAAA Business Meeting and the NDHSAA Session with Executive Director Matt Fetsch.  The CAA Exam will also be offered at 1:00 pm on April 3rd.

This will give you access to our on-line Spring Conference registration process. After you complete the registration process, an invoice will be emailed to you to submit for payment from your school. Please mail your invoice and payment to the NDCEL office at 318 W. *Conference Gift:  

An NDIAAA “branded item” gift will be given to each attendee at the conference.

* Graduate Hour: The NDIAAA will provide the opportunity for conference attendees to receive one graduate credit for $55, through Valley City State University. Course registration information will be distributed at the conference.   

Payment: at Spring Conference check only and on-line with a credit card.  

Credit Requirement: Must attend one LTC course on Saturday and all sessions of the Spring Conference.  

LTC Courses

LTC 712 Athletic Administration: Ethical Decision Making in Education-Based Interscholastic Sports Programs 8:00 am   
The purpose of this course is to help athletic administrators evaluate the ethical qualities of their department and equip them with a protocol for dealing with ethical dilemmas. Participants will be introduced to the concepts of ethical decision making, specifically as it pertains to interscholastic sports. An emphasis of the course is to assist the athletic administrator establish their own moral framework for making ethical decisions and resolving ethical issues within their department. The course also deals with developing codes of ethics and moral character development within coaches and athletes. This is a highly interactive course with multiple scenarios to illustrate qualitative approaches to resolving ethical issues.

  

LTC 710A Athletic Administration: Current Issues in Education-Based Sports 8:00 am  
(Ancillary and Additional Funding Sources for Athletics; Professional Development and Mentoring of Coaches; Multi-Sport Participation versus Specialization and Club Programs; Student Mental Health; Transgender Athletes). An instructor(s) will lead small-group discussions related to important issues and effective response strategies for 3 contemporary topics (selected from 5 available for LTC 710-A). The instructional format of this course will consist of brief presentations, group interaction and sharing of ideas. Participants will play an active role as these issues are debated and explored. Enrollees who will derive greatest benefit: Administrators seeking insight and possible solutions relative to current issues in the field.

  

LTC 510 Athletic Administration: Legal Issues IV (Social Media, Transgender Participation, Event Management & Security, Pregnant & Parenting Student-Athletes, & Intellectual Property)1:00 PM  
This course provides in-depth coverage of the legal standards governing the authority of schools to sanction student-athletes and athletics personnel for misuse of electronic communications tools and inappropriate postings on social media. It also includes strategies for developing and implementing effective social media policies, along with extensive coverage of the legal mandates imposed by courts and legislatures related to event management and security, legal issues regarding the participation by transgender students in school sports programs, the rights of pregnant and parenting student-athletes that must be respected by interscholastic athletics programs, and the intellectual property issues related to schools sports nicknames, logos, and mascots. Required for CMAA Certification

  

LTC 790 Athletic Administration:  Leadership Training Instructional Methods and Techniques 1:00 PM  

Since its inception, the integrity of the NIAAA LTI program has been maintained through the consistent and accurate delivery of course curricula.  LTC 790 ensures the consistent and accurate delivery of all LTI Courses by first providing instructors with an awareness of the expectations that are placed upon them as course instructors, and then by providing instructors with the appropriate instructional strategies, methods and techniques necessary to properly deliver the courses to students.  Current LTI National Faculty Instructors guide potential LTI instructors through a series of exercises and interactions that demonstrate best practices for the successful teaching of all LTI Courses.  To become an LTI instructor, individuals must complete LTC 501, LTC 790 and the course the individual will be instructing.  Required for LTI instructors.
